Emergency Response
Helping animals. Supporting communities.
When disasters and large-scale animal emergencies overwhelm local resources, HST works alongside law enforcement, emergency management, and community partners to provide rescue support, veterinary triage, sheltering, and safe transport.
For active emergencies or situations requiring an immediate response, contact local law enforcement.

Prepared response
One team, many types of response.
HST staff and volunteers are trained to assist law enforcement, emergency management, and other response agencies with animal related emergencies when requested.
Disaster Response
When communities face the unexpected, HST is ready to help through evacuations, rescue and reunification, emergency care, animal supplies distribution, sheltering, and emergency logistical support when requested by emergency management personal.
Law-enforcement seizure support
When law enforcement encounters case of animal abuse and neglect, they are faced with challenges of limited animal related resources. HST’s trained teams and large-scale animal care capacity can support and work with law enforcement in these criminal cases.
Large-scale animal rescue and veterinary triage
With multiple response vehicles, including a mobile veterinary hospital, high-capacity transport vehicle, and a national network of partners willing to lend a hand, HST is able to assist in cases involving hundreds of animals on a scene.
Emergency sheltering
Sometimes, the best way to help, is just being able to keep families together, and close by. Our emergency sheltering operations allows pets to stay close to their family while they pick-up the pieces and create a plan for rebuilding, providing care for their pets so they can focus on the immediate future.
Search, recovery, and reunification
Disasters happen quickly, leaving people and their pets, caught off guard. Our search, recovery, and reunification teams can assist with locating lost pets and creating on-site databases to reunify pets with their people.
Large scale animal transport
Transporting large numbers of pets to positive outcomes can be a daunting task. HST has transported 10’s of thousands of pets to partner shelters across the US and Canada safely and efficiently. With our amazing national partners, USDA accredited veterinarians, and knowledgeable staff, positive outcomes can be found in many places.
